For Immediate Release
The Football Foundation for Africa (FFA) and DocHire, Inc., a U.S.-based AI-enabled healthcare staffing and health intelligence company, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on improving player and community health outcomes across Africa by embedding healthcare access directly into football ecosystems.
The partnership formally launches “Football-for-Health,” a jointly developed pillar within FFA’s Africa Football Development Network (AFDN), aligned with FFA’s Football as Infrastructure (FaI) model. Under this approach, football is positioned not merely as a sport but as a scalable social and economic delivery system capable of supporting essential public goods, including healthcare, public safety, youth development, and data-driven public health intelligence.
Through the agreement, DocHire will serve as AFDN’s Health Infrastructure Partner, deploying clinical staffing, telehealth services, predictive health analytics, and governance systems across football academies, grassroots tournaments, and community hubs. FFA will provide the football-based operating system, local coordination, and continental network through which these services are delivered.
“This partnership reflects a shift from project-based interventions to systems thinking,” said Brian Wesaala, Founder & President of The Football Foundation for Africa. “By treating football as infrastructure, we can integrate health access, safeguarding, and data intelligence directly into environments where young people already gather, train, and compete. This is how football begins to deliver long-term public value at scale.”
The collaboration will prioritise:
- Preventive and primary healthcare access for youth players and surrounding communities
- Women’s and girls’ health, adolescent well-being, and gender-safe participation
- Clinical governance and safeguarding standards within football academies, clubs and events
- AI-enabled public health data to support Ministries of Health, sponsors, and development partners
The initial pilot implementation is proposed in Kenya and Ghana, with a phased expansion to additional AFDN countries.
“We’re pleased to advance this MOU between DocHire and FFA, positioning our Sports Health pillar as a catalyst for athlete wellness, medical readiness, and improved community health outcomes,” said Tanesha Boldin, Founder & CEO of DocHire Inc. “This collaboration aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the SDGs, expanding access to modern healthcare solutions while strengthening sports systems as drivers of national development. Together, we are building a scalable model for healthier athletes, stronger communities, and a more resilient future for Africa.”
The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration, pilot delivery, and future funding structures, including sponsorship, government partnerships, grants, and fee-for-service models, to be defined separately.
The partnership directly supports continental and global development priorities, including SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), while demonstrating how sport can function as nationally relevant social infrastructure rather than a standalone development tool.
