The purpose of the Africa Football Business Show is to create awareness and EDUCATE current and future industry leaders on the needs of the industry and strategies to address those needs to take football business in Africa to the next level.
In this episode, Shon Osimbo talks to renowned football writer David Goldblatt. David Goldblatt is a writer, academic and journalist. In 2006 he published the “Ball is Round: A Global History of Football” and in 2019 he published a successor volume “The Age of Football: The Game in the Twenty-First Century”. Along the way, there have been books on English and Brazilian football, and global history of the Olympics. He has taught as a visiting Professor at Pitzer College , Los Angeles, (2012-2020) and for De Montfort University, the Football Business Academy. He lives in Bristol and shares his affections among Tottenham Hostspurs and Bristol Rovers.
We will tap into his wealth of knowledge to understand the game of football as a global phenomenon and what influence it has had on Africa. We seek to understand the social, political and cultural phenomenon that football is, and how this has affected the development of the industry in Africa as part of a global industry. Ultimately, how can we harness the power of football to develop the sport to best serve the continent’s needs?
