FFA Cup 2019 – Francistown

FFA Cup 2019

This event has expired

The second edition of FFA Cup is set for the 2nd of November, 2019 at the Lesedi Grounds in Francistown, Botswana. Following the successful inaugural event in Moroka Village, The Football Foundation for Africa (FFA) is excited to be coming back to the Southern Africa nation. The first edition, FFA Cup 2018, was a great success and also served as the launch of the FFA – an international social enterprise focused on improving the quality of opportunities in African football.

FFA Cup 2019 will feature ten teams drawn from the city of Francistown and neighbouring towns and villages. The tournament will run under the same theme Tackling Unemployment through Sport.  Through the event, we aim to create awareness about youth unemployment in Africa and highlight the role sport can play to alleviate the situation.

Connecting Africa through Sport

FFA Cup 2019 – Francistown will provide us with an opportunity to explore grassroots sports diplomacy. The inaugural edition of the event took place in Moroka Village, Botswana with the tournament serving as the launch of the Football Foundation of Africa. The competition serves as a platform to creating a lasting dialogue around issues affecting Africa’s youths, mainly unemployment. We also aim to foster cultural understanding across the continent by taking the tournament to more villages, towns and cities. This kind of exchange is especially important in light of the recent launch of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The tournament will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge in the grassroots sport sector and relevant actors. Knowledge sharing will go a long way in improving the delivery of sports for development programs in Africa. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of opportunities available to the youths of Africa. Additionally, we will contribute to society and individual development in the health, education, sport or social fields

Small and medium-sized Enterprises with plans to venture into other markets in Africa can also use this platform to push their brands. Last year the tournament was co-sponsored by Kenyan IT firm, OTB Africa, and Botswana’s telecommunications giant Mascom.

Sponsorship and Partnership

In line with our tournament theme, we are looking for organisations to support our education and career exhibition, which will take place at the same venue. We plan to provide a platform where players, fans and other stakeholders can interact and seek out careers and business opportunities while enjoying the beautiful game.

  • Compensation of match officials
  • Team and individual awards.
