The Football Foundation for Africa Cup (FFA Cup) is a one day 7-a-side football tournament held under the theme Tackling Unemployment Through Sport. The tournament features teams drawn from the local community, corporate sector and academia. The tournament also features a career fair. It provides a platform where players and fans can connect and interact, not only to enjoy the beautiful game, but also to seek out career and business opportunities.
Connecting Africa through Sport
Unemployment among young people is one of the biggest problems for Africa, and Botswana is not immune to this problem. As Africa works towards creating a single market to boost trade and provide for its growing population mostly made up of young people, this initiative strives to unite, educate and connect football talent to share ideas, opportunities for young talent to thrive.

Football, Africa’s most popular sport, is especially suited for this purpose due to ubiquity and unifying quality. It is with this in mind that the organisers of Obama Cup decided to take the tournament to the continent as the FFA Cup. We believe that there is an Obama in every society. The FFA Cup is here celebrate, remember and honour their stories.
The first ever FFA Cup will be held in Moroka Village, Botswana on August 18th, 2018. Winners of the Botswana edition will have the opportunity, to travel to Nairobi, Kenya for Obama Cup 2019 contingent to adequate funding. This kind of exchange will continue with subsequent editions with the aim enhancing networks between participants, villages, towns, cities, countries across Africa and beyond – Connecting Africa through Sport.
Partnership and Sponsorship
In line with our tournament theme Tackling Unemployment through Sport, we are looking for organisations to support our career fair which will take place at the same venue. We hope to provide a platform where players, fans and other stakeholders can interact not only to enjoy the beautiful game of football, but also to seek out career and business opportunities.
We are also seeking support, both financial and in kind, in order to make the event a success. Any support afforded will go towards the following areas:
- Venue preparation
- Catering and refreshments for players
- Purchase of equipment
- Compensation of match officials
- Team and individual awards.
We will have a detailed budget and subsequently a financial report of the tournament. While any amount of assistance would be greatly appreciated, here are some suggested sponsorship packages:
- Gold: BWP 10,000 ($1000)
- Silver: BWP 5,000 ($500)
- Bronze: BWP 2,000 ($200)
